About the department

The department of geriatrics at Helios Hospital Krefeld provides care for elderly patients with various diseases. The department's goal is to restore daily skills as comprehensively as possible and ensure the patient's return home or to a nursing home as soon as possible. Doctors combine geriatric diagnosis and therapy with early geriatric rehabilitation. A highly specialised medical team comprehensively and individually considers the physical physique and patients' psychological and social situation. In addition, the department has a centre for geriatric traumatology, which uses only the latest modern standards of treatment. An interdisciplinary team of orthopedists and traumatologists, geriatricians, nurses, occupational therapists and physiotherapists, and social workers guarantees the fastest possible return to daily life after an injury or accident.

In the comprehensive treatment concept, doctors take into account chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes or circulatory disorders and significant functional limitations such as hearing and vision disorders, mobility restrictions, and impairments ranging from mild forgetfulness to dementia or swallowing disorders. An experienced team of doctors and nurses works around the clock to treat life-threatening conditions that acutely threaten respiratory, cardiovascular, metabolic, or renal function.
