Department of orthopaedics oncology

The department of orthopaedics oncology at Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch is an Interdisciplinary Centre for bone tumours, recognized by the Bone Tumors Working Group and a certified sarcoma centre. Local physicians are also certified as tumour orthopedists. As part of quality assurance measures, the department participates in national and international registers and the core documentation of the German Rheumatism Research Center. In addition to established standard therapies, it also responsibly participates in multi-centre international drug approval studies. The staff treats around 640 patients per year. Nine rooms in the ward can accommodate up to 19 patients simultaneously.

Malignant and benign bone and soft tissue tumours (“sarcomas”) and bone are treated at the department. Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy are provided along with other unique methods. In addition to removing tumours (resection), a particular emphasis is placed on the subsequent restoration (reconstruction) of the affected body region.
