About the department

The department of oncology with sarcoma centre and palliative care at Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch is the leading centre in the north of Berlin and Brandenburg for tumour diseases of the intestine, stomach, pancreas, liver, and oesophagus. In 2008, the Berlin-Brandenburg Sarcoma Center was recognized as the first "interdisciplinary centre for bone tumours" in Germany by the Bone Tumors Working Group. It bundles many years of medical expertise in this field in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. The department's multidisciplinary breast centre has been repeatedly certified and awarded ("Focus" list 2nd place in Germany). Local treatments are based on the latest scientific findings. The department offers the most modern therapy options, including innovative techniques like intraoperative radiation (IORT) and abdominal chemotherapy (HIPEC). Through continuous independent control of clinical results, the staff guarantees the highest level of quality. It has numerous certifications by the German Cancer Society, including "Breast cancer centre", "Colon cancer centre", and "Oncology centre".

Gastrointestinal, endocrine, breast, urological, skin, gynaecological, and blood tumours are treated at the department. There is also a specialized centre for the treatment and diagnosis of sarcomas. All kinds of treatment are available, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, immunotherapy, and other interventions. The treatment is combined with the support of the patients by qualified psycho-oncologists.
