About the clinic

Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch is a medical institution with a legacy spanning over a century. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Buch district was established as one of Europe's largest and most modern locations for welfare and healthcare. Throughout the decades, various specialized institutions were founded here, evolving into the modern complex that joined the Helios Hospital Group in 2001. A significant modernization occurred with the addition of a state-of-the-art main building in the tranquil, green surroundings of Berlin’s Pankow district, providing an ideal environment for recovery. The hospital is a high-capacity, maximum-care facility that treats over 52,000 inpatients and more than 144,000 outpatients annually. With a workforce of highly qualified specialists and nursing staff, the clinic operates over 1,000 beds across more than 60 specialist departments, institutes, and interdisciplinary centers. Its infrastructure includes a comprehensive emergency center equipped with a helipad to ensure rapid response for critical cases. A standout feature of the clinic is its international reputation as a referral center for advanced nuclear medicine, particularly Lutetium-177 therapy for prostate cancer and neuroendocrine tumors (NET). The hospital holds numerous prestigious certifications, including recognition from the German Cancer Society as a certified oncological center and accreditation from the German Diabetes Society. Patients benefit from the clinic's integration into the Berlin-Buch research campus, where close collaboration with biotechnology companies and research institutes allows for the swift translation of primary medical research into clinical practice. The hospital’s extensive network of departments provides holistic care across nearly all medical fields. This includes specialized units for obesity and bariatric surgery, general and oncological surgery, orthopedics, traumatology, and ophthalmology. Metabolic disorders are managed through expert units in angiology, diabetology, and endocrinology. Furthermore, the hospital operates several interdisciplinary centers, such as the Breast Center, Intestinal Center, Perinatal Center, Stroke Unit, and Chest Pain Unit, to ensure that patients receive comprehensive, multi-specialty treatment tailored to their specific needs.

After exhausting conventional treatments for my advanced prostate cancer, I was recommended to try Lutetium-177 PSMA therapy. I chose Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch for this treatment, and I am incredibly grateful for that decision. The medical staff were professional, compassionate, and thorough from the moment I arrived. Prof. Dr. Stefan Dresel and his team clearly explained every step of the process, which made me feel safe and cared for throughout my treatment. The therapy itself was surprisingly gentle; I experienced only mild fatigue, which was far less severe than what I had endured during chemotherapy.

I was initially nervous, but Lutetium-177 therapy was easier than expected. There were no major side effects, and my scans show reduced metastases. The trip to Berlin was worth it.
