Department of neuroradiology

Dr. med. Andre W. Demant
radiology and pediatric radiology

About the department

The department of neuroradiology at Beta Clinic Bonn offers the entire spectrum of up-to-date and reliable diagnostics. The radiologists at the department not only carry out imaging diagnostics on adults but also on children. Interventional neuroradiology is a relatively young branch of diagnostic radiology and represents the therapeutic branch of diagnostic radiology. In interventional neuroradiology, image guidance (ultrasound, CT, MRI, and angiography) for therapeutic interventions is used, for example, on the vascular system (e.g. in the case of aneurysms in the arteries supplying the brain or in peripheral arterial occlusive disease). These elegant, minimally invasive treatment methods were only made possible by enormous technological advances. The department is equipped with the most modern interventional equipment, so the patients can benefit from this technological advance.

Adults and children are examined with the latest medical technology on the brain and spine. Therapy focuses are minimally invasive interventions to treat diseases of the spine and vessels. The interventions include plastic reconstruction of the spine, vascular surgery, and more.

Treatment and diagnostic focus of the department

Machine diagnostics:

  • Open high-field MRI (1.5 Tesla) – particularly suitable for those who have claustrophobia (fear of being cramped) and for patients weighing up to 250 kg
  • For example, high-field MRI with 3 Tesla for high-resolution images of the brain or joints.
  • 64-slice CT with dose-saving programs
  • Digital X-ray machine
  • High definition ultrasound
  • Bone densitometry (DXA)

Types of examination:

  • Angio-MRI (vessels in the head, neck, kidneys, pelvis, and leg)
  • Brain MRI including functional neuro-MRI of the brain
  • Diffusion, perfusion, fMRI, DTI, tractography
  • Spinal MRI / MR-Myelography
  • Children's MRI (also under sedation/anaesthesia), CT
  • Angio-CT (vessels in the head, neck, kidneys, pelvis, and leg)
  • Myelography (image of the spinal canal)

Minimally invasive range of treatments:

  • Expansion or stenting – for vascular constrictions
  • Vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty - for vertebral fractures.
  • Microtherapies on the spine
  • CT-guided biopsies (tissue sampling)
