The department of child and adolescent psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics at Academic Hospital DRK Berlin-Westend is engaged in treating psychological and psychiatric disorders of children and young adults up to 21 years. The qualified medical community of the department provide consultation hours in the outpatient clinic and gives medical advice or directs to further treatment. In addition, the doctors care about patients in the day and inpatient clinics (in severe cases). The multidisciplinary team of the department includes psychologists, psychiatrists, pedagogues and specialist therapists who find an appropriate approach for each child and adult according to their age. Doctors perform treatment methods due to evidence-based protocols. Furthermore, the school and psychosocial rehabilitation are performed in the department in the unique centre (ZSPR).
The primary focus covers the diagnostic and treatment of emotional, intellectual, addictive, behavioural disorders, severe mental illnesses, and psychosomatic conditions. The treatment methods include individual and group psychotherapy, behavioural therapy, art and sports therapy, pharmacological treatment, etc. Moreover, children are helped to overcome social, psychosocial and learning struggles at school.
