The department of internal medicine (gastroenterology, haematology, oncology and nephrology) at Academic Hospital DRK Berlin-Kopenick is engaged in diagnostics and treating patients with internal diseases, including the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, and blood system tumorous conditions. A haematology-oncology centre was established on the department's basis, with 17 treatment chairs at its disposal. Furthermore, the qualified doctors of the department closely cooperate with the pancreas centre certified by the German Cancer Society (DKG) and the intestinal centre approved by DKG for colon cancer treatment. In addition, the department was recognised as a "hospital suitable for diabetics" by the German Diabetes Society (DDG).
The department of internal medicine focuses on the broad diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases and their treatment, including inflammation and tumorous conditions of the pancreas. Moreover, malignant tumours and diseases of the hematopoietic system are treated in the department by experienced specialists. Furthermore, patients with chronic and severe kidney diseases get high-level medical help at the department.
