The department of orthopaedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation at University Hospital of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) Munich specializes in diagnosing and treating patients with traumatic and degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system. The department offers the complete spectrum of top medical care according to the latest medical standards - from general, accident and reconstructive surgery to the entire range of orthopaedics to physical medicine and rehabilitation. State-of-the-art equipment at the rehabilitation unit of the department allows receiving rehabilitation for more than 600 patients per year. The department includes an emergency operation room, so the medical team works around the clock to provide emergency care. The department has the most modern diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and an interdisciplinary team of 370 employees to provide optimal care for each patient. The department treats about 2,500 inpatients annually. Also, the department conducts scientific research to develop efficient new conservative and surgical treatment concepts.

The department focuses on geriatric traumatology, pediatric orthopaedics and traumatology, osteology, and physical and rehabilitative medicine. The latest technologies, such as 3D surgery, are widely used.
