Prof. Dr. med. Steffen Massberg
cardiology, internal medicine, interventional cardiology

About the department

The department of cardiology at University Hospital of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) Munich specializes in diagnosing and treating patients with heart disease. The department treats more than 6,000 inpatients per year. The department of cardiology focuses on conservative non-invasive treatment, but close cooperation with the department of cardio surgery allows for complex treatment. In addition to treatment, the department conducts numerous seminars to educate people to recognize the symptoms of acute conditions in cardiology. This helps to identify the disease as early as possible, provide symptomatic treatment at the prehospital stage, avoid complications, and in some cases, save the patient's life. Furthermore, experienced doctors can guarantee optimal patient treatment according to international standards using advanced equipment, and the nursing staff ensures a comfortable stay during hospitalization.

The main directions of the department are the treatment of the most common acute and chronic cardiological diseases, such as heart failure, arrhythmias, coronary heart disease, and others. Also important part is the research activities of the department. Understanding the pathogenesis and physiology of cardiac diseases allows treatment at the highest level.
