About the department

The department of internal medicine (endocrinology, diabetes, and rare metabolic diseases) at the University Hospital Charite Berlin takes care of patients with endocrinological and metabolic disorders. The unit has outpatient, inpatient and day clinics at its disposal. The doctors' team offer high-quality medical care using the latest technologies. In addition, the department conducts long-term studies in disease prevention. Specialists investigate the biology of ageing, obesity and hormone disorders. It is worth mentioning that the doctor of the unit has been awarded the Menarini Prize by the German Diabetes Society. Furthermore, the head physician of the department is a member of the national diabetes society and the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, including commissions on nutrition, allergies, genetically modified food, etc.

The focus of the department covers a broad spectrum of medical fields. The endocrinology clinic diagnoses and treats hormonal disbalances, including diabetes mellitus, pituitary gland diseases, thyroid disorders and endocrine tumours. The nutritional centre cares about individualised nutritional therapies for diabetes patients. Special attention is paid to lipid and fat metabolism diseases.
