Department of palliative medicine

The department of palliative medicine at Park-Clinic Weissensee Berlin cares for people with serious illnesses that can not be cured. The primary aim is to alleviate symptoms and preserve the remaining quality of life as best as possible. All the efforts and considerations focus on the patient with his family and friends. To treat and care for the patients in the best possible way, a diverse team is involved: a medical group consisting of specialists in internal medicine and specialists in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine, possibly colleagues from other specialist departments, a care team, physiotherapists, social service, psycho-oncologists, pastoral care, and nutritional advice experts. A treatment plan is established for each patient. As part of the weekly team meetings, it is regularly checked and, if necessary, adapted to the individual or changing needs of the patient.

Incurable diseases are managed at the department with the help of intensive care, pain therapy, psychological support, and other measures to alleviate symptoms. In addition, inpatient and outpatient at-home treatment is available for the convenience of the patients and carers.
