About the department

The department of neurological early rehabilitation at Park-Clinic Weissensee Berlin offers phase B rehabilitation for the patients. The neurological early rehabilitation ward, with 20 beds, including 4 beds for ventilation weaning, is located in bright, quiet rooms on the ground floor and offers a view of the park. The team consists of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, neuropsychologists, social workers, and a specialized nursing and medical team. Treatment is tailored to each patient individually. The assessment is based on the so-called Early Rehabilitation Barthel Index (-325 to +100 points). The ward treats phase B patients, i.e. those with an early rehabilitation Barthel index below 30 points. As soon as the patient approaches the upper limit, an application is made for transfer to a phase C rehabilitation facility.

The team treats patients who, shortly after severe damage to the nervous system, e.g. after a stroke, are not yet able to participate in the treatment actively. This early rehabilitation aims to mobilize the patient for the wheelchair and to accompany them as they begin to regain everyday skills (personal hygiene, eating, communication, cognition). The nurses carry out therapeutically activating care. The available resources are used to actively involve the patient in washing, dressing, eating, etc.
