About the clinic

Institut Curie Proton Therapy Center Paris is the fourth center worldwide that provides proton therapy services for cancer patients and some benign tumors. The clinic was opened in 1991 based on the advanced research center for studying oncology problems Institut Curie Paris. The clinic is equipped with narrow specialists who ensure the safety of the treatment and the quality of each stage, including oncologists, radiophysicists, processors, dosimetry technicians, paramedics, and anesthesiologists. In addition, doctors use the latest technologies: accelerators of a new generation and offices with isocentric C-arms. Furthermore, the hospital continues searching for even more minimally invasive treatment in cooperation with CNRS - IMNC/NARA in the "Proton minibeam radiation therapy (pMBRT)" project. Since 1993, the medical center has offered treatment for the tiniest patients thanks to the ability to direct proton energy at different angles with the most negligible impact on healthy tissue. The maximum concentration of damage is achieved within the malignant tumor due to the features of proton energy. Particles during movement do not damage tissues and reach their full effect at the stopping point. Before starting the cure, a multidisciplinary team develops models for the treatment planning system (TPS) to prepare, verify, and analyze the effects of radiation on patients, particularly for scattered beam techniques. This approach allowed oncologists to treat oncological lesions of the eyes with preservation of vision and structure in 90% of cases. In addition, the Paris Institut Curie Proton Therapy Center has the unique experience of treating several thousand patients of all ages with therapy-resistant chordomas or chondrosarcomas of the skull base.
