About the hospital
Helios Hospital Cuxhaven is a modern medical facility offering first-class diagnostics and treatment of pathological conditions. The former city hospital put into operation in 1904, has a long history behind it. Since 2014, the Helios Group has owned the hospital as the primary and standard supplier. The clinic is in a unique landscape at the top of the Elbe-Weser triangle in Germany's largest North Sea resort.
The medical centre comprises ten departments where more than 25,000 outpatients and 10,000 inpatients are treated. The clinic has calculated 191 beds in bright, comfortable one-room and two-room places. A team of 400 doctors and nurses surround patients daily with care and support and help them return to their everyday lives as soon as possible.
At the Helios Cuxhaven Clinic, all areas work hand in hand to combine medical experience and service in the best possible way. Specialized departments of general and visceral surgery, gastroenterology, rheumatology, oncology and haematology, spinal surgery, traumatology and orthopaedics provide a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The hospital employs specially trained physiotherapists, speech therapists, social workers, psychologists and prosthetists. Particular attention is paid to elderly patients in the department of palliative care and geriatrics.
Can I treat hernias on an outpatient basis at Helios Hospital Cuxhaven?
Conventional open operations can be performed on an outpatient and inpatient basis if necessary. In addition, the clinic offers surgical procedures, minimally invasive operations (keyhole technique), total extraperitoneal plastic (TEP) and transabdominal pre-abdominal mesh implantation (TAPP).
Is aneurysm surgery developed at the hospital?
Doctors offer abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery in both classic open and endovascular EVAR methods. In addition, endovascular treatment for thoracic aneurysms (TEVAR) and peripheral aneurysms is also available. Such a range of interventions makes the clinic one of the best vascular centres in the city.
Is senior care available at the clinic?
Taking into account the severity and variety of diseases, the hospital opened a specialized geriatric centre. It has a multidisciplinary team and high-tech equipment. Doctors develop an individual rehabilitation plan in parallel with the cure for the maximum result.

Cuxhaven is an independent city and the administrative center of the Cuxhaven district in Lower Saxony. The city includes the northernmost point of Lower Saxony. It is located on the coast of the North Sea at the mouth of the Elbe River.
Alte Liebe is one of the most famous promenades in Cuxhaven, which has been turned into an observation deck. In 1885 a fishing harbor was built, and today Cuxhaven is Germany's most important fishing area. Tourists visit the city not only because of the sights and unique nature but also because of the developed healthcare system. Cuxhaven is home to two hospitals of the Helios group - Helios Hospital Cuxhaven and Helios Seehospital Sahlenburg. Seehospital Sahlenburg is the only medical center in the Elbe-Weser region where specialists work with the spinal neuronavigation system.
Tourist infrastructure, sports and entertainment events, and cultural sites are not all the reasons to visit the city of Cuxhaven. Sandy and green beaches, family SPA centers, tall ships and yachts, and national parks leave pleasant impressions on adults and children.
