About the department

The department of oncology, pneumology, and respiratory medicine at Academic Hospital Koblenz-Montabaur specialise in diagnosing and treating all benign and malignant diseases of the lungs, airways and pleura. The diagnosis usually begins in the high-performance lung function laboratory, which carries out more than 10,000 examinations every year. In a state-of-the-art endoscopy laboratory, experienced doctors mirror the airways with the most modern equipment. A particular focus is on the gentle ultrasound diagnostics of the lungs and the mediastinum and the abdominal organs via the trachea or the oesophagus and the stomach. The department also includes a certified Sleep Laboratory, where doctors diagnose all forms of non-restorative night sleep in more than 700 patients every year. With the pupillographic sleepiness test, specialists can determine in a few minutes whether there is sleepiness or not. In addition, the department is recognised Center for Lung Cancer (certified by the German Cancer Society).

The doctors are successfully experienced in treating rare pathologies of the lungs and respiratory system. The most attention is paid to diagnosing and treating lung cancer and cancer of other respiratory organs. After the conclusion of an oncological diagnosis, doctors hold an interdisciplinary commission with a clinical case presentation, based on which a customised treatment regimen is determined.
