About the department

The department of neurology with stroke unit at Academic Hospital Koblenz-Montabaur diagnoses and treats the entire spectrum of neurological diseases - including neurological intensive care medicine. The department has a special stroke ward certified by the German Stroke Society as a national stroke unit. The stroke unit has 14 beds and is equipped with all modern diagnostic options. In close cooperation with the radiological and neuroradiological partners, experienced doctors always have a possibility of cerebral computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, digital subtraction angiography, and intra-arterial interventional procedures for recanalising the recanalisation of occluded cerebral vessels. More than 3,000 patients are treated in the department annually. The high-qualified medical team guarantees accurate diagnosis and tailored therapy following national and international standards.

Neurological treatment is accompanied by a network of physiotherapeutic, ergo therapeutic and speech therapy measures. Physiotherapy ranges from individual therapies to symptom-oriented group treatments. In ergotherapy, the focus is on treating fine motor skills disorders and targeted brain performance diagnostics and therapy. Speech therapists treat patients with speech and swallowing disorders, such as those that can occur with Parkinson's disease or after a stroke, both during inpatient and outpatient stays. There is also a special therapy consultation for movement disorders with therapy using botulinum toxin and consultation for carrying out cerebrovascular ultrasound examinations in outpatient care.
