Department of urology
The department of urology at Academic Hospital Bundeswehr Berlin contains 24 beds and an internal Prostate Center Berlin-Mitte. The department offers the entire urological spectrum of modern examination techniques, treatment strategies, and operative and conventional therapies. With more than 1,700 operations per year, the department is leading in the surgical treatment of urological tumours. The facilities meet the structural requirements in terms of secure procedures, standardization of diagnosis and therapy, data and information flow, treatment documentation, and follow-up care in close alignment with the specifications of the German Cancer Society for oncological centres. In addition to surgical therapy, the department also offers conventional and drug treatments. Constant training enables local experts to achieve the results of the highest level. This also applies to the nursing staff, specially trained in uro-oncological care. Furthermore, the department participates in multi-centre studies in cancer research.
The specialization includes the treatment of diseases of the kidneys and the urinary tract of both sexes and male genital organs. Children are also treated. Surgical treatment is supplemented by chemotherapy and multi-target therapies, e.g. for kidney cancer. Another specialization is in the area of comprehensive treatment for urinary stone diseases.
