Department of nuclear medicine

About the department

The department of nuclear medicine at Academic Hospital Bundeswehr Berlin was newly established in 2019 with the latest technologies and equipment. The modern equipment enables examinations according to the current state of science and significantly contributes to the quality of care for the patients. The head of the department is a radiologist, nuclear medicine doctor, medical physics expert, a guest scientist at the Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg, and is a member of various societies and research groups to develop conventional and alternative medicine. In addition, the department incorporates a Thyroid Center specializing in the treatment of thyroid diseases. One of the keys offered at the centre is thermoablation, or bipolar radiofrequency ablation (RFA) – a modern, safe, and tissue-conserving procedure for treating benign thyroid nodules.

The facility is organized over diagnostics: the low-dose radiation (scintigraphy), visualization, and functional testing. A particular type of treatment, thermal-ablation, is available as well.

Treatment and diagnostic focus of the department

Equipment available at the department:

  • Thyroid camera (the MiE PICOLA SCINTRON is specially designed for recording the function of the thyroid gland. Year of construction: 2019)
  • Thermal ablation system (the CelonPOWER system is equipped with a patented power control RCAP, which automatically adapts to the treatment situation and enables particularly gentle therapy)
  • Ultrasonic (The Alpinion E-CUBE 8 ultrasound devices have a high-resolution, extra-wide linear probe with which the thyroid gland can be optimally visualized. Year of construction: 2019)
  • Gamma camera with SPECT function (the double-head gamma cameras with SPECT function enable an imaging process that can show the functions of internal organs such as the heart, the thyroid gland or the entire skeletal system. Year of construction: 2019)
  • Ergometry (stress ECG, performed with an Ergoline bicycle ergometer while lying down. It is used to prepare for cardiac examinations. Year of construction: 2019)

Diagnostic procedures:

  • Thyroid scintigraphy
  • Parathyroid scintigraphy
  • Bone scintigraphy
  • Myocardial scintigraphy
  • Abdominal sonography
  • Bone density measurement
  • MRI / CT (in cooperation with PRIMENOSTICS)
