Bochum is a modern European city, part of the Ruhr metropolitan area. Bochum is home to nine higher education institutions with over 60,000 students.

Since 1988, Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical "Star Express" has been staged in Bochum, which has now attracted 10 million viewers, making it the most successful musical in the world. At the end of summer, the city houses the Bochum Total music festival, one of Europe's most significant musical events.

Citizens are proud of their RUB, the affectionate nickname of the Ruhr University Bochum. Opened in 1965, it was the first university in the Ruhr area and the first newly established university in West Germany. Today, RUB is one of the city's largest employers and is strengthening the local research sector. The university also owns major medical centers such as University Hospital Bergmannsheil, Catholic Clinic, and University Hospital Knappschaftskrankenhaus.

Bochum is a beautiful city with an exciting history and an abundance of unique ancient monuments. One of the favorite places for walking among the guests of Bochum is the Bermuda Triangle.
