Department of traumatology, hand, plastic and reconstructive surgery
The department of traumatology, hand, plastic and reconstructive surgery at University Hospital Wurzburg (UKW) treats patients with musculoskeletal, hand and soft tissue injuries around the clock. The Center for Operative Medicine has been offering pleasant, bright and spacious rooms and all the facilities and equipment for modern high-performance medicine since 2004. The department is one of the few clinics in Germany that has received the certificate from the European Center for Trauma and Hand Replantation (FESSH). Surgeons choose tissue-sparing surgical techniques that cause as minor damage as possible to nearby delicate structures such as tendons, nerves, or blood vessels. Microsurgical techniques make it possible to reconstruct the nerves and vessels and replant severed fingers. Every year, traumatologists perform more than 3,000 operations and more than 15,000 emergency and elective procedures.
As a centre of the utmost care and a level I trauma centre, the department specializes in treating tumours, the musculoskeletal system, joint arthroplasty and arthroscopic treatment of joints. A separate important direction of doctors is plastic surgery. The medical team performs breast surgeries, microsurgical surgeries after injuries, body and facelift surgeries, botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid injections, and much more.
