Department of orthopaedic surgery

Prof. Dr. med. Maximilian Rudert

About the department

The orthopaedic surgery department at University Hospital Wurzburg (UKW) offers a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for treating diseases of the musculoskeletal system. According to the prestigious Forbes magazine, the department ranks among the best leading orthopaedic clinics in Germany. The department has all the necessary modern equipment for accurate and fast diagnostics, including ultrasound methods, functional diagnostics, 128-slice computed tomography and 3T magnetic resonance therapy. Doctors perform more than 750 knee and 650 hip replacement surgeries annually. The medical team pays great attention to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the musculoskeletal system in children and adolescents of all ages. All surgical interventions are carried out, considering children's constant growth. Minimally invasive procedures such as arthroscopic and microsurgery are used for surgical treatment. When necessary, doctors also use pharmacotherapy, manual therapy and physiotherapy.

The highly qualified team of the department treats inflammatory, autoimmune and degenerative diseases of the knee and hip joint, foot and wrist, as well as the back. The department surgeons are proud of their success in hip and knee arthroplasty, replacement and revision of prostheses, treatment of oncological diseases of the musculoskeletal system, foot surgery and problems with the patella. In addition, doctors perform operations to replace the implanted endoprostheses in case of displacement and destabilization of the endoprosthesis components.
