general and visceral surgery, transplantation and vascular surgery

About the department

The department of general, abdominal, transplantation and vascular surgery at the University Hospital Wurzburg (UKW) covers the entire spectrum of operative visceral medicine. The medical team pays special attention to treating benign and malignant diseases of the oesophagus and stomach. The department is part of the Mainfranken Comprehensive Cancer Center, which confirms the high professionalism of surgeons and the high efficiency of treatment following the latest international standards. All surgical interventions are performed using sparing minimally invasive techniques. Operating departments have modern navigation systems, microscopes, and equipment for the visualization and monitoring systems and organs. In addition, many years of surgeons' experience make it possible to perform complex operations like liver transplantation or reconstructive interventions on the vessels.

The department's surgeons specialize in the surgical treatment of the liver, biliary tract, thyroid and adrenal glands, inguinal, umbilical and postoperative hernias. In addition, the department has a laboratory for the function of the gastrointestinal tract to carry out the necessary diagnostics before surgical interventions in the upper digestive tract. The Colorectal Cancer Center, which is also part of the department, deals with treating diseases of the colon and rectum. The head doctor is known for minimally invasive treatment for liver metastases with Laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT). A particular focus is the treatment of children who need an individual approach and unique treatment methods.
