About the department

Department of orthopaedics trauma surgery and sports medicine at Regio Hospital Elmshorn treats injuries after accidents or their long-term consequences and degenerative diseases of the entire musculoskeletal system. Department specialists attach great importance to a holistic treatment tailored to the patient's individual needs and aim to achieve the earliest possible resilience with the best possible functionality. Treatment is carried out on an outpatient and inpatient basis. More than 2,000 operations are performed annually at the Surgical Outpatient Center. Each operating room is equipped with a new surgical microscope and LigaSure device to avoid unnecessary traumatisation and complications.

The main directions of the departments are orthopaedics, children and geriatrics traumatology, sports injury and reconstructive surgery. As part of this close cooperation, doctors can optimally treat a wide range of acute injuries, amputation injuries to the extremities and vascular and nerve injuries. In addition, the department works closely with physiotherapists. Particular value is placed on targeted early functional physiotherapy follow-up treatment with rapid remobilisation. In the case of older patients, there are numerous aids available to ensure the greatest possible independence after an operation.
