About the department

The department of general and abdominal surgery at Regio Hospital Elmshorn covers the entire spectrum of modern general and visceral surgery, including minimally invasive surgery. The medical team offers operations for patients of all ages using classic conventional and laparoscopic procedures. Some of the traditional operations can be performed under local anaesthesia. The rapid and uncomplicated care makes it possible to carry out a large part of the interventions outpatient. In addition, the department has the latest modern equipment, such as an ultrasonic dissector for gentle and bloodless transection of liver tissue and a LigaSure device for tissue transection with minimal bleeding.

Experienced doctors of the department pay special attention to diagnosing and treating hernias and proctological diseases. A particular focus of the department is the surgery of endocrine disorders. During thyroid operations, neuromonitoring is used to protect the vocal cord nerves. Surgeons also perform gynaecological and urological procedures in close cooperation with other hospital departments.
