nuclear medicine

About the department

The nuclear medicine department at Memorial Sisli Hospital Istanbul diagnoses and treats almost all body systems diseases using small amounts of radioactive materials. The dose of radioactive materials used is so low that even newborns can use it. Key clinical areas include diagnosing and treating tumours and diseases of the thyroid gland, kidneys, brain and heart. For diagnostics, doctors have at their disposal the necessary medical equipment of the latest generation: devices for PET, PET-CT, SPECT-CT, etc. The most common diagnostic tests include scintigraphy of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, brain and bone marrow. After a comprehensive diagnosis, the doctors of the medical facility evaluate the feasibility of radioisotope therapy. The department doctors use only reliable radioisotopes that do not harm the human body and do not cause side effects.

In the field of therapy, one of the priority areas is the use of nuclear medicine in prostate cancer. Doctors successfully use Actinium-225 PSMA and Lutetium-177 PSMA in their practice, which was specially developed for the treatment of prostate cancer. Due to their specific properties, the drugs bind to cancer cells and destroy them. This type of therapy is highly effective and well-tolerated by patients.
