Department of rheumatology, clinical immunology and osteology

Prof. Dr. med. Rieke H. E. Alten
internal medicine, rheumatology and immunology, osteology, physical therapy and sports medicine

About the department

The department of rheumatology, clinical immunology and osteology at Academic Hospital Schlosspark Charlottenburg Berlin has been recognised as a certified osteological centre since 2011. The head physician of the department is a member of the Federal Institute for Drug Research, which means that patients in this department are treated only with evidence-based medicaments. On a departmentʼs basis, a rheumatism outpatient and day clinic was established, where patients get qualified medical help. The doctors in the spectrum of interdisciplinary cooperation offer seminars for patients where they teach and motivate them to deal with rheumatic diseases.

The main focus of the department is diagnostic, differential diagnostic, and treatment of a wide range of systemic rheumatic diseases that affect small joints, spinal joints, bones, tendons, ligaments, muscles, skin and vessels. The patients of the rheumatology department can also take part in movement courses (dry and water gymnastics) provided by experienced physiotherapists to improve mobility and quality of life.
