About the department

The department of otolaryngology, head and neck surgery at University Hospital of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) Munich offers diagnostic and treatment for patients with ear, nose and throat diseases. The department includes two clinics, one in Großhadern and another downtown. Broad-based, excellently coordinated team of experts and modern equipment apply to provide care in all areas of ear, nose and throat medicine at national and international medical standards. Experienced doctors guarantee the best possible quality of medical service using the latest therapeutic methods and surgical procedures. The department has 102 beds where more than 4,300 inpatients are treated per year. In addition, there are support groups for people with hearing loss and their relatives for social and mental health based on the department. Medical care is provided both for adults and children. Emergency care also is possible. The department is equipped with modern endoscopic devices for minimally invasive approaches.

The department's primary focus is treating hearing loss, speech, voice and swallowing disorders, head and neck neoplasms. Also, one of the critical directions of the department is cochlear implantation.
