About the department

Dr. von Hauner Children's department at University Hospital of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) Munich has existed since 1846 and was founded by August Hauner - a famous German historical paediatrician. The department provides specialized care for young patients up to 18 years of age. Today, the department combines pediatric and pediatric surgery units. This combination ensures short distances and accessibility of specialized medical staff to outpatients and inpatients. The department includes 119 beds for the pediatric unit and 61 beds for the pediatric surgery unit. The treatment rooms have a pleasant, calming environment to avoid stress for young children. In general, the department provides outpatient care with 3 intensive care units to be able to treat even the most severe acute diseases. The entire staff is more than 500 highly qualified personnel who provide proper care for every little patient. Children and adolescents with chronic and severe illnesses are educated by teachers so that children have the opportunity to keep up with the school curriculum. In addition, teachers liaise with the schools of patients who are being treated in the department. On the department's territory, there is a playground where children can get outside. The treatment is carried out following the latest treatment protocols, and the option of a clinical trial is also possible for specific conditions.

The department aims to treat the primary therapeutic and surgical diseases in children. The department provides a full range of diagnostic services and modern medical care. The focus is on respiratory, endocrine, digestive and cardiovascular diseases.
