About the department

The department of oncology, haematology, and tumour immunology at the University Hospital Charite Berlin specialise in diagnosing and treating tumour diseases and diseases of the blood. The unit has 96 beds at its disposal and treats over 2700 inpatients and more than 8000 outpatient cases annually. The interdisciplinary team of the department is part of the Charité Comprehensive Cancer Center, mainly part of the certified visceral oncology centre, the Charite sarcoma centre and cooperates tightly with the ovarian carcinoma centre. It is worth mentioning that the haematology centre of the department is recognised for the care of lymphoma and leukaemia. In addition, the palliative care wards are a significant part of the Charité palliative care centre. Furthermore, experimental and clinical research on lymphomas and gastrointestinal tumours is carried out at the department in cooperation with the Max Delbruck Center for Molecular Medicine.

The focal points of the unit include modern evidence-based therapy for pancreas, stomach, and intestinal cancer, as hepato-biliary and oesophageal tumours. The other focus lies on the guideline-compliant treatment of leukaemia and lymphoma. Finally, it is essential to mention stem cell transplantation as a focal point of the department.
