About the department

The department of neonatology at the University Hospital Charite Berlin deals with newborn babies, and the medical care of their families. The team comprises 200 doctors, nurses and other employees who cooperate to reach the highest quality of medicine. The neonatology department treats more than 1250 cases annually. It is essential to mention that the department is a leading neonatal facility in Germany for high-risk patients, according to a survey by the Federal Joint Committee. Moreover, the department has a bilirubin outpatient clinic at its disposal. Furthermore, the head physician of the department leads two clinical projects regarding studying brain development and its disorders. In addition, the department's specialists are awarded by the Society for Neonatology and Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine for their scientific findings in neonatology.

The focal points of the neonatology department include managing congenital diseases that some children are born with. In addition, the specialists provide medical help to mothers and fathers of newborns. However, the significant focus lies in preventing diseases in children.
