Institute of tropical medicine
The institute of tropical medicine and international health at the University Hospital Charite Berlin contributes to national and global health. The department has a travel clinic, which people can address before travelling abroad. Moreover, the unit is recognised as a certified yellow fever vaccination centre. Furthermore, the unit has an outpatient clinic and laboratory, which offers a broad spectrum of diagnostical procedures. In addition, the institute conducts research on tropical diseases such as malaria and other infectious diseases such as helminthiases, HIV/AIDS, etc. It cooperates with other tropical diseases clinics in Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Uganda. Their projects are funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The institute also provides post-graduate training for medical specialists.
The institute's medical focus includes preventing tropical diseases and treatment. In addition, the clinic performs various vaccination and individual consultation before travelling abroad. The particular focal points of the institute lie in parasitic and rare diseases.
