Department of haematology and oncology

haematology, oncology

About the department

The haematology and oncology department at Helios Hospital Krefeld provides diagnostics, therapy, and rehabilitation for patients with oncological diseases and diseases of the blood, lymphatic system, and bone marrow. The department has its haematology laboratory and closely cooperates with the Institute of Pathology since making an accurate diagnosis in oncology is the most critical step in therapy. Along with surgery and radiation therapy, drug therapy is essential for modern oncological medicine. The department's patients receive treatment according to the latest scientific discoveries and always include new therapeutic approaches. In addition, the medical team oversees nearly 100 clinical trials across all disciplines. As a result, patients have the excellent opportunity to participate in new and modern therapies that are not yet approved for routine use and may open up new possibilities.

The department is certified by the German Cancer Society, which confirms the professionalism of the medical team. Once a week, specialists from the cancer centres of individual organs meet at the oncological council. These include specialist surgeons, radiation oncologists, drug therapy specialists, pathologists, radiologists, and oncology nurses. The goal of specialists is to develop recommendations for therapy that are optimally adapted to the specific clinical picture of the patient.
