Department of angiology

Prof. Dr. med. Knut Kroger
internal medicine, angiology

About the department

The department of angiology at Helios Hospital Krefeld specializes in diagnosing and treating all diseases of the arteries, veins, and lymphatics diseases. Accurate diagnosis is the key to successful treatment, so the department has all the necessary modern equipment. Colour-coded duplex ultrasonography is the most critical imaging technique for diagnosing vascular diseases. In addition, doctors use magnetic resonance angiography. Both procedures stress the patient's body neither with X-rays nor with the administration of a contrast medium. After the diagnosis is made, a highly qualified medical team selects an individual set of therapeutic measures. In the early stages of the disease, the department's specialists can prescribe conservative therapy and lifestyle changing.

Of particular interest to the department are circulatory disorders, obliterating diseases of peripheral vessels, thrombosis, Raynaud's syndrome, and diabetic foot syndrome. Depending on the stage and symptoms of the disease, the patient has been prescribed either outpatient or inpatient treatment. A team of hemostasiologists selects the optimal drugs or a combination of several medications to thin the blood or inhibit blood clotting.
