Department of angiology, diabetology, and endocrinology
The department of angiology, diabetology, and endocrinology at Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch has three awards from the German Diabetes Society (DDG): a certified diabetes centre, a foot centre, and a "hospital suitable for diabetics". This makes it one of only seven centres in Germany that have three DDG certifications. The physicians work closely with their partners in radiology, vascular surgery, cardiology, and other in-house specialists. The department is certified by the German Diabetes Society as a treatment centre for type 1 and type 2 diabetics and the treatment of diabetic feet. Also, doctors treat arterial vascular calcification and occlusion, venous thrombosis, and diabetes complications. The diabetology team also looks after patients on the other 50+ wards in the house if they have problems with diabetes.
The angiology, diabetology, and endocrinology team look after patients with congenital and acquired diseases of the arteries, veins, lymphatic vessels, and glands. These diseases often lead to life-threatening and life-limiting consequences for the heart, brain, and kidneys. Therefore, preventing or at least delaying this is one of the department's tasks.
