Department of hips orthopaedic surgery

Prof. Dr. med. Hans Gollwitzer
orthopaedics and trauma surgery, sports medicine, chirotherapy and hip orthopaedic surgery

About the department

The department of hips orthopaedic surgery at ATOS Orthopedic Clinic Munich specializes in hip problems' arthroscopic treatment and minimally invasive implantation of hip prostheses. The surgical techniques used - such as the AMIS technique for implanting hip prostheses and partial prostheses in athletes - correspond to the latest knowledge of gentle surgical procedures. In addition to the clinical and surgical work, hip specialists are regularly in demand as speakers and tutors at national and international surgical courses due to their extensive experience and expertise in hip surgery. The implantation of hip prostheses at the department showed excellent results and was recognized as the most successful surgery in recent decades. Most of these surgeries can now be performed using muscle-sparing, minimally invasive surgical techniques. A gentle surgical approach shortens the after-treatment time, the patients become mobile more quickly, and the results are also better due to the avoidance of muscle damage.

The therapeutic priorities of the department are in the diagnosis and treatment of hip disorders, including hip endoprosthesis and follow-up procedures. Surgical methods include arthroscopy (using endoscopes), minimally invasive surgery, and the AMIS technique.
