Department of orthopaedics and trauma surgery

Dr. med. Thomas Kruppa
orthopaedics, trauma surgery

About the department

The department of orthopaedics and trauma surgery at Academic Hospital Neuwerk Monchengladbach offers diagnostics and treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, as well as injuries. The therapeutic options cover conservative measures and, more often, surgical interventions performed using gentle, minimally invasive techniques. The department provides round-the-clock emergency care for injuries. There are two intensive care units to treat patients with life-threatening injuries. Medical care is provided following the current standards of medical societies in close cooperation with the interdisciplinary intensive care unit and other medical departments. In addition to emergency care, the team specialises in elective complex joint surgeries. Furthermore, the department is certified as a centre that provides treatment for accidents at work and school and is registered as a local trauma centre. The medical team includes trained doctors and nurses and experienced physiotherapists and psychologists.

The critical attention of the department is given to the treatment of bone fractures of varying severity in adults and children, surgical correction of bone fusion disorders after fractures, and septic surgery of bone tissue. In addition, doctors specialise in treating acute and chronic pain through interventional therapy.
